BIBLE READING: EXODUS 3:3-4; JOB 42:5; JEREMIAH 31:24; ACTS 9:3-6; JOHN 17:3
“We have come to know [by personal observation and experience], and have believed [with Deep, Consistent Faith] the Love which God has for us. God is Love, and the one who abides in Love abides in God, and God abides continually in him.” 1 John 4:16 (AMP)
It is amazing to know that we serve a God Who always makes the first move. From the Very Beginning, He hasn’t been hiding from us or keeping His Distance. He’s been reaching out, calling out, drawing us close. The Whole Story of the Holy Scriptures is really the Story of a Loving Father pursuing His children. Think about it: In the cool of the evening, He walked through the Garden just to be with Adam and Eve (Gen. 3:8). He wasn’t a distant deity up in the clouds;
He was present, Personal, wanting Fellowship. And He’s never stopped reaching out. He called a man named Noah and gave him a wild plan to save his family (Gen. 6:13-14). He made Incredible Promises to Abraham and invited him into a Covenant Relationship (Gen. 12:1-3). He spoke to Moses from a bush that burned but didn’t burn up (Exo. 3:2-4). He even drew near to Job in the middle of his deepest suffering and confusion (Job 42:5). Every single one of these Encounters changed people forever. And here’s the Beautiful Truth: The Same God who sought them out is seeking you out today.
Let’s sit with that Burning Bush Moment for a minute. Moses was just going about his ordinary day, watching sheep in the middle of nowhere, when suddenly he noticed something extraordinary, a Fire that wouldn’t consume the bush he was staring at. Curiousity pulled him closer, and that’s when God spoke. Not with thunder and lightning, but with a Gentle Call: “Moses, Moses.” And then came the Instruction to take off his sandals, because the Ground beneath his feet had become Holy simply because God was there.
That moment wasn’t just about giving Moses a job to do; it was an invitation into Intimacy. God wanted Moses to know Him, not just work for Him. And later, the Holy Scriptures tell us that God would speak to Moses Face to face, like a Friend talking to a friend (Exo. 33:11). That’s the kind of Relationship God desires with each of us, not distant and formal, but Close and Personal.
Fast forward to the shores of Galilee, and we see the same God reaching out again. Jesus walked up to some ordinary fishermen: Peter, Andrew, James, John—men with calloused hands and fishy nets, and He simply said, “Follow Me.” They didn’t have a resume to present or a plan to propose. Jesus took the Initiative. He sought them out right where they were (Matt. 4:18-20). And then there’s the story of Saul, a man who was actively trying to destroy the Church. If anyone seemed too far gone, too hard-hearted, too opposed to God, it was him. But on the road to Damascus,
Jesus stepped right into his path with a Blinding Light and a Personal Question: “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” (Acts 9:4). That moment of Divine Interruption wasn’t about punishment; it was about Purpose and Love. It’s a Powerful Reminder that no one is outside the Reach of God’s Relentless Grace.
Jesus Himself put it this way: “You didn’t choose Me. I chose you…” (Jn. 15:16). That Truth should settle deep into our hearts. Our Relationship with God isn’t something we earned or achieved; it’s something we received. It’s rooted entirely in His Love, not our merit. And His Love isn’t fickle or temporary. Through the Prophet Jeremiah, God declared, “I have loved you with an Everlasting Love; I have drawn you with Unfailing Kindness” (Jer. 31:3). That means His Love isn’t based on our performance. It’s Eternal. It’s Unchanging. It’s a Love that keeps drawing us closer.
Do you want more than just knowing about God? Job had heard about God all his life, but it wasn’t until he went through deep suffering and encountered God personally that he could say, “My ears had heard of You, but now my eyes have seen You” (Job 42:5). That’s the shift from religious information to Genuine Relationship. That’s what the Holy Spirit wants to do in our lives, to move us from head knowledge to Heart Knowledge, to reveal Jesus to us in Deeper and Deeper Ways. God isn’t hiding from you. He’s not distant or uninterested. He’s reaching out. He’s calling your name, and He longs to reveal Himself to you in Ways that will transform your life.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for being the God who always makes the First Move – for walking through the Garden, for speaking from Burning Bushes, for calling fishermen by the sea, and for stopping persecutors on the road. Thank You for pursuing us with Your Unfailing Kindness. O Lord, we don’t want to just know about You; we want to know You. Draw us closer. Open our eyes to see You, our ears to hear Your Voice and our hearts to receive the Fullness of Your Love in the Mighty Name of Jesus. Amen.
