BIBLE READING: MALACHI 2:7; COLOSSIANS 1:25-28; MATTHEW 24:42-51; 2 TIMOTHY 2:24
“Having then Gifts differing according to the Grace that is given to us, whether Prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of Faith; Or Ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching.” Romans 12:6-7 (KJV)
The Teacher is a Critical Part of the Five-fold Ministry and occupies a highly Strategic Office which is responsible for maturing the Body of Christ: “And He gave some, Apostles; and some, Prophets; and some, Evangelists; and some, Pastors AND TEACHERS; For the perfecting (or equipping) of the saints, for the Work of the Ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ: Till we all come in the Unity of the Faith, and of the Knowledge of the Son of God, unto a Perfect Man, unto the Measure of the Stature of the Fullness of Christ…” (Eph. 4:11-13).
Without the Ministry of the Teacher, there is no Christian believer that would be able to develop the Maturity required in order to fulfill their Ministry.
The Job of the Spiritual Teacher is the job of a trainer, tutor, and instructor in God’s Word. The Teacher must of necessity have a thorough Understanding of the Holy Scriptures so as to be able to break it down into what even nursing babies can comprehend.
This is accomplished basically the same way a mother eats, digests, and converts the food she eats into milk that the baby can, in turn, easily eat and digest. It is indeed an obvious fact that Teaching Priests are amongst the endangered species we have in the Church today (2Chron. 15:3) hence it would be catastrophic to undermine the Office of the Teacher.
Every Genuine Teacher must have the Capacity to communicate God’s Word in a Methodical Manner, i.e., in such a way as to facilitate Proper Understanding and Application of God’s Word: “For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:..” (Isa. 28:10).
While emphasizing the importance of the Role of the Teacher, it is vital to note that the Holy Bible seems to suggest that this Office is next only to the Apostolic and Prophetic Offices as far as building the Church of Jesus Christ our Lord is concerned (1Cor. 12:28a) due to the use of ordinal numbering rather than cardinal numbering in the above Scripture. In other words, setting up the Foundation is the purview of the Apostles and Prophets (Eph. 2:20) while building up the Structure falls within the Jurisdiction of the Teacher. The Lord open our eyes to the Sensitive Role of Scriptural Teachers.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, we exalt You today. O Lord, we humbly pray that You give us Teachers after Your Own Heart who would feed us with Your Word and train us into becoming Mature Christian believers who can fulfill Your Perfect Will for our lives in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
