In a renewed drive to ensure that Ebonyi Schools align with Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s educational vision, the State Commissioner for Education, Professor Paul A. Nwobasi, has embarked on an unscheduled inspection of public schools across the state.
The inspection tour, which commenced with a visit to Special Science School, Igbagu, saw the Commissioner assessing facilities and engaging with management on key areas of academic improvement, especially in the sciences.
According to him, the Governor’s unwavering commitment to education is already yielding tangible results, and School Administrators must intensify efforts to sustain the momentum.
Speaking while inspecting the school’s Science and Technology laboratory, Professor Nwobasi emphasized the importance of equipping students with practical skills that would enable them to complete favourably in an increasingly technology-driven world.
“The world is fast becoming a global village. We must equip our children with the right tools and mindset to thrive in it,” he stated.
He urged School authorities to key into the Governor’s agenda by prioritising science Education and embrace moral instruction.
“We are building not only future scientists and engineers but responsible citizens. Positive living and good morals must be part of our educational culture, ” he added.
Professor Nwobasi further reiterated the state government’s plan to embark on robust training and retraining of teachers across all subjects, with particular attention to emerging global standards in education.
He directed school management to set up functional science laboratories for effective teaching and learning, promising government’s support where necessary.
In the spirit of collaboration, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor on education , Hon. Peter Nwogbaga, commended the Governor’s remarkable investment in the sector; attributing Ebonyi state’s current ranking as third in the national performance to Governor Nwifuru’s passion and proactive policies.
Hon. Nwogbaga urged Schools yet to establish Libraries to do so Immediately , stressing the importance of nurturing a reading culture among students.
“It is no longer business as usual. Our schools must reflect 21st century standards in both infrastructure and academic output,” he charged.
Also speaking, the Head of Department for science Technology and higher education, Pastor Sunday Alegu, advised management and staff to uphold discipline, honesty, and accountability in their daily operations. We are not just serving the government, we are in service to God and humanity. Let us take stock and be diligent,” he counselled.
Earlier, the principal of Special Science School, Igbagu, Mr Nwoba Christopher Idoko, and the science Teacher, Mr. Oliver Eze expressed appreciation to the Commissioner and his delegation for the surprise visit.
They assured the team of their commitment to implementing all directives issued and praised the Governor for approving a new one-story classroom block for the school.
The inspection team also visited King David Gifted Academy, Centenary City, Abakaliki, where the school”s administrator Rev. Sis. (Dr.) Ezinne E. narrated some of their achievements and challenges.
She appealed to the Commissioner to urgently consider their pending requests already submitted to the ministry. Professor Nwobasi reassured the schools of the ministry’s resolve to respond to genuine needs and to continue fostering an enabling environment for effective teaching and learning across the state.
As the unscheduled visit continues, education stakeholders across Ebonyi are bracing up for closer scrutiny and greater accountability.
The message is clear: Governor Nwifuru’s education reforms are non-negotiable, and every hand must be on Deck to translate his vision into reality.
