The recent resurgence of violent clashes and it’s resultant killings at a slightest provocation in some Communities in our beloveds Ikwo is becoming a source of worry to every one.
These acts are not only inimical to the societal development, but also allen to our culture, society and even God abhorred it,
The attendant consequences of such violent clashes is overwhelming as it ranges from disruption of peace of the Communities, to hindering of progress and development in the community and often leads to displacement and suffering. It directly contradicts fundamental human rights, including the right to life, security and freedom from fear.
We have witnessed recently, series of communal clashes ranging from land disputes to village or Community leadership tussle, or a minor disagreement between individuals, which sometimes snowball into communal clashes. And each time it erupts, lives are wasted and properties destroyed. This has become a new norm in our various communities.
It against this backdrop that the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ikwo Local Government chapter is calling for attitudinal change and cultural rebirth in our Communities. We must not kill our brother or destroy his property because we want to be a village head. We must not kill because we’re not of the same political affiliation. We must not kill our brother just because of a piece of land that we will leave and go. Killing is not in our culture.
Let’s give peace a chance in our communities, because peace protect, preserve and respect fundamental human rights. Peace helps the society to advance economically, socially and culturally.
Peace is not just about avoiding war; it’s about fostering cooperation, understanding, and mutual respect among our communities. A Community without violence is a more secure and stable place for everyone. Peace allows for economic growth and development.
In essence, embracing peace and shunning violence is not just a moral imperative, but a necessary condition for creating a better Ikwo for all.
Let us shun violence and embrace peace today!
Elder Hon. Stephen Nwukwu,
Chairman, Ohanaeze Ndigbo,Ikwo Local Government Chapter.
